Currently building around the pitch, which acts as a big piazza.
Here's a couple of early pics. Work in progress...

Hi,
when I was younger I used a typical shape of italian pasta caled "quadrucci" for dioramas' road and squares.
They are small square piecies we usually cook with soups...
If I found I'll send a picture.
We use to glue them and then paint grey.
If it could be useful...

Thanks for the ideas - although this is turning into a worrying thread!! :o:

If I progressed with the cobblestone idea, I would dye a felt subbuteo pitch different shades of grey. Then cut and glue the pieces on each of the small tiles (so the pitch looked like cobbles, but played like felt).

How many pieces of quadrucci would be needed for a Subbuteo pitch?
Also, how long before the quadrucci goes off and starts to mold or smell?! :huh:

If you manage to do what described you'll compete for patience award for sure!!!
Anyway each quadruccio measures 5X5mm, just to give you an idea about how many would be required... :wacko:
As far as molding or smelling is concerned I don't think this could happen if quadrucci are... painted in advance one by one, obviously! :P
Anyway if you are going to paint and cut small pieces of felt probably you don't need quadrucci and can paste them on the wooden surface.
Let me know about progress of work ;)

This is an example of final result with quadrucci...

Thanks for the clarification - and great effect with your quadrucobbles!! :clap:

...so maybe cutting up a dyed felt pitch...I think I will need to experiment with a small area and see what it looks like (and flicks like!)

Here's a few more pics from last night, and then this morning, when the sun was out! :B):

It will be magic playing on such a pitch...
About the cobblestone, why don't just dye the pitch and draw with a marker the little squares? Easier task than cut thousand of quadrucci felts...

Maybe this will be a good option....

How many 5mm x 5mm quadrucci squares (Q) in a Subbuteo pitch, if the cloth is approx. 140cm x 90cm?

Q = (140 x 90)/(0.5 x 0.5)

Q = 12600/0.25

Q = 50400

Time to paint and cut and stick felt to each square = 150 seconds
Total time required (hours) = 150/60 x 50400 = 2100 hours
Total time required = 87.5 days!

Mental state after doing this = :wacko:

Hmmm...

Time to draw one square = 5 seconds

Total time required (days) = (140 x 90)/(0.5 x 0.5) x 5/(3600x24)

Total time required (days & hours) = 2 days, 22 hours

Mental state after doing this = still :wacko:
